The Basileus – “My tongue is my weapon”
The Basileus is a position of some privilege in
the wasteland. They are the people who
survive through their wit, the accumulation of
wealth and power, or their way with people.
In the field, the Basileus is expected to engage
in diplomatic relations, drafting up documents
for a negotiated treaty, for example. They also
carry a radio to communicate with HQ before
making any rash decisions – unless they feel
they can talk their way out of any negative
consequences there as well. They also co-
ordinate attacks and can adopt a commanding
role, providing political backing and lending
their power of influence to the task at hand.
1st rank- We’re Sending Someone in to Negotiate!: The Basileus knows where he is best applied – and that’s at the negotiating table. His words carry a certain power to persuade, and are backed by his clan.
2nd rank- The Drawing Table: Any verbal agreement made in the wasteland is fleeting at best. The Basileus knows one needs official documents & treaties – things a faction must adhere to at risk of losing face.
3rd rank- With A Flourish: A bit of wit, a clever remark, the right application of a logical fallacy to an argument – the Basileus loves to gain the upper hand through thinking, and enjoys the benefits of being entirely in his element. He applies this love of the game to social interactions as well as combat situations.
4th rank- Me and THIS Army: A Basileus’ word always has a greater impact when they have an entire clan or faction at their back. As a representative of such a force, his options and the weight of his negotiations expand greatly.
5th rank- Elected Official: Beyond even the duties of being a representative, the Basileus can aspire to hold office with his faction. With this new position, he can influence the very structure of society, provided he has the love and support of his people.
